What "filters" did you use to pull the number out of the image. Also, to play devil's advocate, would it have been possible in 1982 to apply a non digital manipulation filter to see the hidden features?

It seems the colors on the Image have faded with time? I think the thing available in 1982 would have been 3D glasses. With that in mind I added a transparent layer over the dots until the image was more clear. The zero or "O" seemed to stand out more, initially. I could be completely wrong but at this point it seems to be getting us closer to that area.

nah. you drew a line over random circles the same way 2 people can look at clouds in the sky, and one person can claim its a castle, and the other person could claim its a Princess. also , the "V" isnt big enough for the amount of steps you need to take. I think you are close by the spot.. but its not there.. and your random dots don't make sense.
